At your Facility
Objective:
To assist the client company designated,
competent person(s) in becoming skilled and efficient in his/her
capacity as an in-house rigging gear inspector.
Time:
A three-day program which includes
classroom workshops and hands-on inspection activities.
Classroom Subjects:
* Wire Rope
* Wire Rope Slings
* Synthetic Web & Round Slings
* Alloy Chain Slings
* Rigging Hardware
* Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices
* OSHA/ASME Standards
Skill Measurements:
The participants are instructed
in each subject according to the removal criteria based on the
applicable OSHA, ANSI, ASTM and AISI regulations, standards and
guidelines. The inspector will make hands-on inspections of used
and damaged gear, correctly identifying any criteria for its removal
from service. Each participant must score a minimum of 85% correct
on the written exams and pass the hands-on inspections to successfully
complete the program.
Location & Equipment:
The course is conducted at a client-provided
classroom facility complete with a computer projector & screen,
TV/VCR, slide projector, and chalk or marker board(s). Additional
space is required to lay out the inspection gear. ITI will ship
3-4 boxes full of rigging gear to be inspected during the hands-on
portion of the program.
Course Materials & Tools:
Participants receive a course notebook
containing various standards & regulations, a Wire Rope Users Manual, catalogs, inspection forms,
and reference materials, as well as a Journeyman Rigger's Reference Card and Rigging Gear Inspection Reference Card. They also receive a fanny pack of inspection
tools, consisting of a marlin spike, sheave gauge, calipers, chain
no-go gauges, tape measure, and magnifying glass. Those who successfully
complete the program will receive a certificate and card.
